As a relatively new member of the group, I am more into listening than talking while also making sure that I don’t speak out of turn.

This is quite an old boys club kind of grouping of middle-aged men in their forties who have been working together in this organization for 14-15 years.

As someone in my early thirties, I don’t get along well with the exuberant younger lot in their twenties and initially found it a challenge to fit into the old boys club of men in their forties.

However, my ability to buy chicken online and salvage a much-awaited weekend bash actually impressed the old boys where I’m now integrated as an important member of the group. 

You might be curious to know why I am not talking about people in their thirties who would have gotten along with me without any hassles. Well, there are no men in their thirties in our organization other than me, which is odd but that’s how it is. Speaking of the much awaited weekend bash, well it’s one of those days when we seniors get together in the house of one member of the group where we focus on good food, discussions on various matters of general interest and tour plans.

A weekend get-together that almost didn’t happen

The member in whose house this particular weekend’s party was to take place had to travel outstation on business. As it happened, no other member was prepared for the contingency apart from me.

When I received the call asking if I could host the bash in short notice, I had just ordered fresh prawns home delivery from my favourite EmeatStore, which is the most reliable online meat and fish super store in Thane, where I live.

I am a prawn freak and had luckily ordered a couple of kilos that would have lasted for a couple of weeks or even more. Now I knew it would be put to good use.

Now, when I got the call, I said yes without bothering to give it even a second’s thought. I just grabbed the opportunity to prove my worth to the old boys. The fellow member, who called up, was overjoyed as he didn’t expect me to agree as fast as I did. He was all praise for my response and offered to chip in with chicken, for which he said that he needed to rush to the market.

I took up responsibility of getting the chicken in quick time

Most members of my group including the person, who called up to ask me if I could become the host of this weekend’s get-together are not at all comfortable with online shopping.

That’s the reason he said that he needs to rush to the market to get the chicken. When I asked him not to worry and relax, he was bemused and asked, “But how can you get 5 kilos of good quality chicken on such short notice?”

I told him “I’ll buy chicken online from a highly reliable online meat store known for supplying top quality chicken and delivering to the buyers’ doorstep in minutes.

He was quiet for a few seconds, and then just muttered, “Wow, let’s see how good their chicken is,” and hung up saying, “I’ll be at your place in an hour at the most.” 

As I had expected, the chicken was delivered to my doorstep in just 15 minutes after I ordered to buy chicken online from EmeatStore.

My colleague and friend, who had spoken to me on the phone, actually turned up ten minutes earlier and expected to find me unprepared. 

He was pleasantly surprised to see the chicken curry already getting cooked with the wonderful aroma all over my house. He was the first to taste the chicken since nobody else had turned up by then and instantly became a fan of my cooking. All’s well that ends well. Both the chicken curry and steamed prawns were instant hits with my entire group and they all looked at me with new respect. They kept praising me for salvaging what could have been the first failed weekend bash of the group.
